Good Competition at Mason

The team traveled to the Mason Invitational meet this past Saturday to compete on one of the crowd-favorite courses of the season, including a few hay-bale hurdles just to make things interesting.  It was another hot and humid event, with the girls finishing before the thunder and lightning rolled into Mason.  For season management purposes, the team opted to sit a few runners out of the varsity race, and the CGXC girls competed in both the Girl 11-12 Open and Girls 9-10 Open races.

In the Girls 11-12 race, CGXC swept second place behind the solid host team Mason, with strong performances by our upperclassmen runners.  Results for these focused and determined athletes were as follows:

Megan  Kafka, 2nd place, 22:09
Megan Knauer 3rd place, 22:10
Anna Bostwick  6th place, 22:21
Jessica  Kimbrell, 10th place, 23:03
Brooke Greenlee, 16th place, 23:20

CGXC runners took fourth place overall in the Girls 9-10 race, in a race that once again belonged to Mason.  The CGXC underclassmen are finding their groove and growing in strength and race strategy in their build to GWOC’s in a just over a month.  Solid times were posted with the following scoring runners:

Kylie Boggs, 10th place, 22:48
Katie Jauch, 16th place, 23:12
Hannah Mangen, 22nd place, 23:31
Layla Emmert, 34th place, 24:24
Claire Maxwell, 35th place, 24:29

This coming week will be an exciting one for CGXC as the Varsity Runners take their show on the road to compete against some of the top Midwest high school teams in the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Michigan, near the campus of Michigan State University.  The girls have their sights set on reclaiming their first place title from their inaugural visit to this course last year.  The remaining runners will compete in the Eaton Invitational on a great course in the beautiful and historic Fort St. Clair State Park.  #hungry4more.
