GWOC East Division Champs

gwoc-championships A sunny Saturday morning brought out the hunt for GWOC titles for both Boys and Girls Cross Country, as Centerville High School hosted the 2016 GWOC Championship Cross Country Championship races on our pristine course, with a gorgeous finish inside our own CHS stadium! For Centerville Girls Cross Country, it was a great day of racing, as the girls easily clinched the GWOC East Division Championship.  However, their finish fell just short of the final outcome they were seeking, with the strong racing team of Troy taking the GWOC title this year, giving Centerville a solid second place finish in the overall GWOC Championship.   But, for the top runners in this program, the road to state has just begun, and Saturday’s race has definitely left this young team hungry for more as they head into the next several weeks of post season championship racing!

CGXC runners train in tight packs, often race in a tight pack, and, on Saturday, they finished in a tight pack, with the top five runners across the line within 11 seconds of each other, and with 6 of the runners finishing in the top 20. Led by sophomore Savannah Lowe, who finished with the impressive honor of GWOC Top 10, the final times and places for Centerville Varsity were as follows:

Savannah Lowe 19:05 (10th)
Kerri Walsh 19:08 (11th)
Grace Kilroy 19:09 (12th)
Rachel Whitehead 19:12 (14th)
Dalia Einstein 19:16 (15th)
Kelli Walsh 19:29 (19th)
Sophie Hippenmeyer 20:44 (41st)

Proving exactly how strong and how deep this CGXC team is this year, Centerville dominated the GWOC Girls Open Race on Saturday, sweeping first place by a landslide, with five of the top seven finishers overall from CGXC.  Senior Drea Scofield took the race by storm, posting a new PR and setting a fantastic pace for her teammates, who followed suit.  Finishing times and places for the top 7 Centerville runners across the line in the GWOC Open Girls race were:

Drea Scofield 19:47 (1st)
Anna Bostwick 20:13 (2nd)
Laura Drew 20:14 (3rd)
Sydney Khosla 20:37 (6th)
Kylie Boggs 20:37 (7th)
Megan Kafka 21:12 (16th)
Layla Emmert 21:26 (18th)

A HUGE shout out to the Centerville Boys Cross Country team, who also finished as the GWOC East Division Champions, along with a 2ndplace overall GWOC finish as well.  It has been exciting to watch the Centerville Boys program climb in the rankings this year, and we wish them the best of luck in the post season!

Centerville Girls Cross Country takes the stage once again next week as they compete in the Ohio Southwest District Division I Championships in Cedarville, OH.  Temperatures might be dropping, but things are just beginning to heat up for CGXC!  #hungry4more
