THREE STRAIGHT TITLES!

On an unseasonably warm autumn afternoon this past Saturday, the sun certainly shone brightly on Centerville Girls Cross Country as they raced like the wind across the finish line to clinch the title of Ohio Division 1 Girls Cross Country State Champions for the third straight year in a row!  This young team of runners trained together all season, focusing on the process rather than the outcome of this physically and often mentally demanding sport, and their focus definitely paid off for them in Saturday’s championship race!

With the Trojans of Troy nipping at their heels all season, the key to the success for CGXC came down to just one word–teamwork–as all five scoring runners for Centerville crossed the line within just 37 seconds of each other.  Even more than that, nearly the entire team of 70 runners for Centerville was on site at National Trail Raceway to cheer on their teammates at every twist and turn of the course.  They pushed each other, with drive, grit and incredible love for one another, to a history-making third straight title!  Sophomore Grace Kilroy led her team across the line with a time of 18:30, placing her 19th overall and earning her a spot on the all-Ohio podium.  Finishing times for the remainder of this State Championship Team were as follows:

Grace Kilroy, 18:30 (19th)
Savannah Lowe, 18:46 (33rd)
Rachel Whitehead, 18:47 (35th)
Kerri Walsh, 19:04 (46th)
Kelli Walsh, 19:07 (50th)
Dalia Einstein, 19:39 (92nd)
Sophie Hippenmeyer, 19:42 (96th)

Congratulations to all former and present CGXC runners for an outstanding season and for bringing the D1 State Championship trophy home to Centerville for the third straight time!  We are so proud of all of you! #EPND
