TOPS @ TRINITY-VALKYRIE

The entire Centerville Girls Cross Country team took to the road this past weekend to compete for the first time in the oldest cross country meet in Kentucky: the 62st Annual Trinity Valkyrie Invitational in Louisville.  The meet was held at EP Tom Sawyer State Park, home of the 2015 NCAA National Championships.  We thought maybe fall weather had arrived and was here to stay, but we were all wrong!  A cloudless blue sky and a blazing hot sun left no doubt that the last official days of summer are still here!

In a field of some of the most competitive teams in the tri-state region, Centerville Girls Cross Country snagged the number one spot in the Seeded Race by a razor-thin 4 points from last year’s dominant winner, Carmel High School of Indiana.  And with only one senior among the top eight CGXC runners, Centerville showed the pack that they are a force to be reckoned with, not only this year, but in the years to come!  Junior Grace Kilroy led the team with a 9th place overall finishing time of 18:31, followed by freshman Emma Bucher, who has set her mark on this team by finding herself under the magic 19 minute line once again with a time of 18:54.  The CGXC finishing times in the Seeded Race were as follows:

Grace Kilroy 18:31
Emma Bucher 18:54
Kelli Walsh 19:15
Dalia Einstein 19:26
Sidney Khosla 19:40
Savannah Lowe 19:55
Rachel Whitehead 20:00
Kerri Walsh 20:02

The Varsity Race, which took place a bit earlier in the day, saw a very strong race by Centerville as well, with the second grouping of Centerville runners securing a 3rd place finish overall.  Runners leading the way for Centerville in this early morning race were:

Nikki Jindal 20:36
Maddie Little 20:43
Katie Jauch 20:49
Hannah Mangen 21:06
Meghan Kafka 21:33
Brenna Lankford 21:41
Megan Knauer 21:53

The temperature continued to rise, and the heat put many of the Centerville girls to the test for the Girls Open race, which took place shortly after noon.   But the girls handled the conditions and wrapped up a morning of Kentucky racing, with junior Kalie Adrian bringing The Herd home with a time of 22:52.  The leading times for the Open Race finishers show just how warm the afternoon was shaping up to be:

Kalie Adrian 22:52
Isabella Aviles 24:34
Lillian Gibbons 24:57
Emily Coderre 24:59
Samantha Brandt 25:09

Next Saturday, the Centerville Girls and Centerville Boys Cross Country Teams bring the competition home to Centerville High School as they host the most-talked-about event of the season:  Centerville Saturday Night Lights!  Racing for this all day event begins at 2:15pm with the Elementary School divisions and continues until our varsity runners close the night under the lights at CHS, with Girls Varsity hitting the starting line at 9:15pm!  Don’t miss your chance to cheer on your Elk runners here at home!  #BeTheChange
