Big Day @ Les Eisenhart

The team was on the road this weekend to compete in the Les Eisenhart Invitational at Thomas Worthington High School in Worthington, Ohio, just north of Columbus.  The conditions were perfect for an early fall race, with temperatures in the 60s, a beautiful blue sky, and plenty of sunshine.  All of these factors made for a very fast course that saw course records and plenty of PRs (personal records).

Up first for CGXC were the varsity runners, where strong individual efforts lead to a team 7th place finish, as Centerville prepares for the championship portion of their season which begins next weekend.  Freshman Dalia Einstein led the team with a time of 19:25, a PR for this young runner, and the rest of the varsity runners for this race followed suit, with three PRs and two SBs (season best) among them.  Times for the varsity runners were as follows:

Dalia Einstein, 19:25 (28th)
Laura Drew, 19:38 (39th)
Sophie Hippenmeyer, 19:38 (40th)
Kylie Boggs, 20:00 (54th)
Anna Bostwick, 20:05 (57th)
Drea Scofield, 20:31 (81st)
Megan Kafka, 20:55 (102nd)

The Girls 11/12 Open race followed, with a fantastic 3rd place team finish, led by a PR and 4th place overall race finish from senior Brooke Greenlee.  Once again, Centerville runners pushed themselves forward to individual and team success, with two PRs and three SBs among this group of talented upperclassmen. Times for the Girls 11/12 Open race were as follows:

Brooke Greenlee, 21:20 (4th)
Madison Shooter, 21:48 (12th)
Madison Millhouse, 22:32 (30th)
Alex Bielecki, 22:40 (34th)
Ashley Engel, 22:41 (35th)
Megan Clements, 23:00 (46th)
Dana Moronel, 23:00 (47th)

Perhaps the most exciting moments of the day came in the finish of the Girls 9/10 Open Race, where Centerville freshmen and sophomores dominated the field.  Freshman Sydney Khosla, who had been recovering from an injury, was finally able to show her speed in her debut run for CGXC, finishing 2nd overall with a personal best time of 20:25.  These young runners took the team motto to heart, showing they were “hungry4more,” with one SB, an outstanding six PRs, and four of the top eight overall finishers across the line.  Times for the Girls 9/10 Open Race were:

Sydney Khosla, 20:25, (2nd)
Layla Emmert, 21:00 (5th)
Hannah Mangen, 21:01 (7th)
Katie Jauch, 21:01 (8th)
Katie Lynch, 21:22 (12th)
Claire Maxwell, 22:13 (28th)
Kalie Adrian, 22:25 (36th)

Saturday was about TEAM from beginning to end for CGXC, and this TEAM is ready for championships! Next weekend, Centerville hosts the GWOC Cross Country Championship races for both boys and girls. If you haven’t seen these athletes run yet this season, be at the Centerville High School Stadium next Saturday to watch your fellow Elk Runners show their stuff in what will be an EXCITING day of racing!
